Cagliari Art Museum extension
The Public Art Gallery of Cagliari is located in a 19th century military building that formerly hosted the royal armoury. The façade is characterized by friezes, elements of neo-classical style and a tympanum with three scupltures on the top.
The extension occupies the backyard of the existing complex and is organized in two stacked white blocks: the lower one hosts a auditorium and many storage spaces, while the upper one hosts the main gallery, a cafeteria/restaurant and a few offices.
A large horizontal opening separates the new gallery from a outdoor area that can be used for temporary exhibitions.
